TITLE: Guidance Counselor – Middle School

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Kentucky Certification 

 

REPORTS TO: Principal 

 

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

 

  1. Adheres to federal, state and local regulations and policies concerning Kentucky core content, special education, GT curriculum, etc.
  2. Develops, implements, and evaluates the school guidance and counseling program
  3. Acts as an effective consultant for students, parents, and staff members concerning school related issues, problems and information
  4. Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth through higher education and belonging to professional organizations.
  5. Shares in staff responsibilities of student body care and supervision.
  6. Maintains confidentiality.
  7. Oversees the system of student permanent records and the security of those records.
  8. Enrolls new students and transfers existing student records.
  9. Pre-regulation of students including scheduling.
  10. Conducts individual and small group counseling sessions.
  11. Assumes primary responsibility for the testing programs including all special education programs and general population testing.
  12. Acts as Building Assessment Coordinator.
  13. Interprets test results to students, parents, and colleagues.
  14. Assists in curriculum planning, particularly with career education.
  15. Conducts individual intellectual and achievement assessments for programming needs.
  16. Serves as ARC chairperson designee.
  17. Assists the principal in informing students and parents of requirements, policies, and procedures of the school.
  18. Assists with behavior management of students.
  19. Coordinates transition program of students to the high school level.
  20. Coordinates outside resources providing students services, i.e., Four Rivers Behavioral Health, Murray State University services programs, etc.
  21. Completes 42 hours of Leadership Training every two years for professional growth and development.
  22. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
  23. Adhere to the Professional Code of Ethics.

 

EVALUATION: 

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
